| STANDARD STYLE SCORE CUTTERS CRUSH CUT KNIVES |
| Score cut slitting takes place under pressure from the knife holder at the tangent point of the knife and the "glass hard" platen roll of the machine. Because of the knife to the platen roll contact, the score cutter MUST HAVE A CUTTING EDGE RADIUS. A pointed bevel angle would bend, roll over and flatten against the platten roll and would fail to properly cut. The combination of bevel angle and edge radius is determined by the material to be slit. Since score cutters cannot use a point edge, but depend on a rounded edge for the seperating action, then slitting is more of a pressing apart of the material. |

| The various materials to be slit will have different densities, abrasiveness and thickness, so it is apparent that the proper bevel angle and edge radius be used to obtain the best resukts. Experience shows that a 30* included angle, .002-.004 edge radius is more suited for abrasive non wovens. the section below shows various cutter edges and materials as a starting point in the selection of a cutter edge. Your experience on your machine and materials may show that a different angle and edge radius may work better. Whatever the choice, you can order the edge combination you want, for new knives or regrinds and get this same combination on every order you place with Service Grinding Company. |
