| When cutting coated abrasive cloth,, the knife is pressed down under heavy pressure onto a hardened platen roll as the material passes forward between the roll and the slitter wheel. The knife in this operation must have the beam strength to resist deflection and wobble under this pressure, and also be made of a steel that has a high hardness and the property of high resistance to wear. The picture below demonstrates this action. |

| The standard score cutter is NOT designed for this operation. Many years ago a specially ground self-sharpening knife blade was developed, and is still the most widly used score cutter in the industry. The knife blade is ground with a long secondary tapering angle, from the cutting edge primary double bevel back to the hub diameter. This angle provides the beam strength the knife must have, and prevents quick rounding up to a blunt non-cutting edge that other knife design edges experience. |

| Self Sharp Style Slitter Knives are designed to have a thickness of .030 at the bevel. There are certain knives that are available in a thinner design knife that is .020 at the bevel. Basic O.D. I.D. and hub dimensions are designed to fit levers on Cameron, Dusenbery, and many other makes of slitter machines.
